What you will do:

  • Perform daily payroll department operations

  • Builds and maintains a high level of knowledge regarding payroll processes, policies and procedures and ensures compliance with government regulations

  • Maintain employee master fields in payroll system via multiple means including imports and mass updates. Individual updates to employee master information include complex direct deposit scenarios, multi-state taxation and labor distributions

  • Maintain business controls and audit trails for all payroll transactions

  • Prepare time and attendance data for importing into payroll system and reconcile data once imported. Tasks include auditing reports for accuracy, following up with managers for appropriate approvals, properly documenting and entering time and attendance data overrides in payroll system, including retro-active adjustments

  • Coordinate communication, set up, and payment of court ordered wage attachments, levies and support orders, including maintenance of third party payee data in payroll system.

  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed payroll reports

  • Prepare, balance, and process tax deposits timely, as required by law

  • Calculate and prepare general ledger entries. Determine and correct out of balance conditions. Reconcile all general ledger accounts.

  • Proficiency in system, report writing and preparing special reports for management.

  • Ensure accuracy of system and data

  • Educate colleagues on payroll processes

  • Transmit 401(k) to vendor

  • Interface with Human Resources, Benefits, Accounting/Finance and front-line supervisors to maintain workflow efficiency

  • Ensure accurate amounts are recorded in the general ledger

  • Reconcile quarterly and year-end tax filing to payroll registers

  • Answer employee and management questions regarding paycheck, as well as, PTO information and provide direction as to proper documentation and help with policy clarification

  • Complete miscellaneous tasks and projects as assigned by manager

Required Skills

  • 2-year college. FPC or CPP designation preferred.

  • At least 5 years experience in payroll

  • Work experience in a financial services work environment

  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects

  • Strong customer orientation

  • Knowledge of company policies, procedures, company benefits plans and compensation policies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to interface with all levels of organization

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team orientation

  • Exceptional problem solving and multi-tasking skills

  • Ability to demonstrate analytical thinking

  • Effective time management, organizational and prioritization skills

  • Computer proficiency: Word, Excel and Power Point
